——The second phase of the Ignite Spirit English Practical Training Camp, an English salon activity with the theme of “eating” arrived as scheduled after the busy tax season. Adhering to the purpose of “IGNITE SPIRIT ENGLISH Practical Training Camp for Living English”, open your mouth and open your heart. The second phase of the activity focuses more on letting all friends who come to participate to practice roles, speak out the learned vocabulary and sentences, and strengthen memory.
In daily life in Canada, whether it is formal restaurant dining or fast food restaurant window ordering like McDonald’s, remember some simple and commonly used vocabulary and sentences, so as not to panic and not know what to say on the spot. The teacher of this class is our second-generation Chinese immigrant. The courseware carefully prepared by the young man covers the key points of restaurant ordering, ordering, fast food, and paying the bill. For example, in a restaurant, starting from the most basic menu, appetizer, main or entree, side, drink, etc., a friend asked: “What does side mean, and I don’t know how to answer every time?” In fact, side is to ask what side dishes are needed, such as whether there are other vegetables or fries beside the steak, etc. In addition, someone asked: “I want to eat something light, what if I don’t know what to order?”, the teacher said: “Could you recommend something light? Or anything special?”. When talking about tableware, we explained the differences between napkin, tissue, and paper towel. Don’t underestimate these small words. If you ask the waiter for a napkin in a restaurant, it will be a bit “embarrassing” to say “tissue”!
When ordering steak, how to say medium rare, medium rare, medium rare, medium rare, and medium rare. The key words and sentences in fast food restaurants are even simpler, such as eating in the restaurant or taking out, how to pay, etc.
The most important thing in Ignite Spirit English is everyone’s actual practice. The entire 1 hour and 30 minutes course is full of interaction and role play. Ms. Shelly, the founder of Ignite Spirit English, personally participated in the interaction. The friends present started out being “a little shy” and taking notes with their heads down, then gradually asked questions, corrected pronunciation, and then practiced role-playing. As Ms. Shelly said, “Everyone should forget about Chinese and try to speak boldly. Don’t worry about grammar. As long as you can make the words clear, you have achieved the purpose of communication!” What’s more interesting is that many friends have written down the useful sentences given by the teacher in class on their mobile phones. She said, “I record them according to the topic, so that when I go to a restaurant in the future, I can just open it and scan it, and then speak it. It’s simple!”
Ignite Spirit English is free of charge. It helps you open your mouth and opens your heart.
